| Vector masks are designed to hide parts of an image. Let's understand their functioning by caging a rhino. Create a new file. Insert an image of a cage. |

| Create a cutout of a rhino and insert in main file. Now we'll put this rhino behind the bars using vector masks. |

| 2.CREATING VECTOR MASK |
| Select cage layer. From layer menu select Layer mask >> reveal all. |

| A mask thumbnail will be created on cage layer. Move the rhino layer below the cage layer in layer order in layer palette. |

| 3. SELECTING THE RIGHT TOOL AND MODE |
| Select pen tool. Enable path mode from options bar at top. |

| 4. DRAWING MASK SHAPE |
| Create path over the portion of the cage that needs to be masked. i.e. the black portion. When you create a path it will create a hole in cage layer and will let the rhino to show through the hole. |

| Similarly mask out all the black portion from the cage layer. |

| Create a new layer. Fill it with solid black color. Move this layer below all the layers in layer order in layer palette. |
