Creating CASPER - The friendly ghost

The objective with this tutorial is to be more comfortable using the pen tool, once you can master this, you can create powerful drawings with ease, so let's get started. Start by creating a path for casper's face using pen tool.

Create a gradient as shown.

Press Ctrl+Enter to create a selection from a path. Fill the selection with the gradient in radial mode.

Using pen tool create body path.

Apply the same gradient.

Similarly create hands of the casper.

Fill the background with black color.

Change the color modes of all the casper layers to screen.

Select eraser tool and erase all the overlapping area.

Create an ellipse using elliptical shape tool.

Double click the layer to open layer style window and enable gradient overlay and stroke. Apply settings as shown.

To create the eye lids draw a circle place it inside the white ellipse near the bottom.

Double click the layer to open layer style window and enable gradient overlay. Apply settings as shown.

Draw a tiny black circle and place it at the center of the eye lid.

Merge all the eye layers. Duplicate it. Flip it horizontally and reduce the width. Place it as a second eye.

Using pen tool draw eyebrows with a dark color.

Create lips of casper. Fill it with a lighter shade.

Now we'll create cheek on casper's face. Draw a circular selection and press Ctrl+Alt+D to feather the selection.

Fill the selection with same gradient we use for the body in radial mode.

Using eraser tool erase the bottom portion of the circle. Reduce opacity of this layer to 20%.

Duplicate the cheek. Flip horizontally. Place on the other side.

Similarly create a circular nose of casper.

Now we'll add details to the body by creating a subtle effect of casper's bottom. At the butt area create a big circular selection. Feather it and apply the same gradient in radial mode.
