Creating complex cutouts |
| In photoshop there are a number of methods to create a cutout like pen tool, magic wand, lasso tool etc. But at times these methods fall short of our expectation especially when we have areas like hair etc. In this tutorial we'll channels along with other techniques to create a complex cutout. We'll start working on this image to knock out the background. |

| Open channels window to see different color channels. |

| Select each channel to see how dark are the areas. Since green channel has most of the dark area. We'll create it's duplicate. |

| Press Ctrl+L to open level settings. Apply settings as shown. |

| It will create almost a black & white image out of the colored one. |
 |
| Ctrl+Click the channel to get the selection. |
 |
| Click on RGB channel and switch to girl layer in layer palette. |
 |
| Press Ctrl+Shift+I to inverse the selection. Click add layer mask button from the bottom of the layer palette. |

| Select white as foreground color. Select brush tool and draw on areas that become invisible due to mask. |
|

| Similarly select black as foreground color. Select brush tool and draw on areas that you need to knock out from the girl's body. |

| Now you can insert any image in the background that will show through girl's hair perfectly. |
