Creating header for a historical site

Start by creating a new file of the header size. Create a rectangle a little smaller than the header size using rectangular shape tool.

Ctrl+Click the layer thumbnail to get the selection. Press Q to enable quick mask. From filter menu select distort>>ocean ripple. Apply settings as shown.
Press Q to disable quick mask.

Create a new layer and fill the selection with a solid color. This will create torn edges around the rectangle. Hide the layer below.
Press Q to enable quick mask. From filter menu select render>>difference clouds.
Press Q to disable quick mask. Create a new layer and fill it with darker color.
Repeat the above mentioned step and fill the new layer with a different color.

Select the layer just above the torn edges layer and press Ctrl+Alt+G to create a clipping mask. Also create clipping mask for the next layer.

Select the torn edges layer. Create a few random selections around the edges using polygon lasso tool.
Press delete.
Fill the background layer with black color. Using brush tool create some random shape lines to create boundaries effect and also create some multicolor rectangles.
Select and merge these layers. Change the layer mode to linear light and reduce the opacity to 20%..

Select and merge all layers. Create a triangular selection towards the bottom right edge.
Press Ctrl+Shift+J to cut paste the selection in a new layer. Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select rotate180°.
Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp. Adjust nodes to get the shape of page turn.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.
Duplicate the torn page layer and change the layer mode to hard light.
Repeat the steps we used to create a torn page to create a small button. Create duplicates of the button layer and place as shown. Apply some drop shadow layer style to the buttons.
Insert a relevant image cutout. Move the layer right above the torn page layer. Press Ctrl+Alt+G to create a clipping mask.

 

Repeat the above steps for another image.
Type link names over the button shapes.
Insert company logo and place on top right.
