Creating a cool left navigation panel

Start by creating a thin line using line shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.

Duplicate layer twice and place below each other.
Create a rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle shape tool. Make it wide enough so that it covers entire width of the lines and also show rounded edges from the sides. Move this layer below all the layer in layer order in layer palette.
Ctrl+Click the layer thumbnail to get the selection. From select menu apply modify>>contract. Contract the selection by 1 pixel. create a new layer above all layers and apply a black to white gradient in linear mode.
Change the layer mode to color dodge.

Select and merge all layers. Duplicate and place at the bottom.
Create a rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle shape tool.
Create a small circle using elliptical shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply layer style with the settings shown.
Duplicate layer several times and place as shown.
Similarly create a line of circles on the other side.
Select and merge all the circle layers. Duplicate the layer. Change the layer mode to vivid light.
Use similar method to create horizontal line dividers.

 
Create a very thin ellipse using elliptical shape tool.
Duplicate several times and place as shown.
Repeat the steps for the other side.
Also place thin ellipses between the circles in horizontal line dividers.
Create a rectangular selection of top button area using rectangular marquee tool.
Create a new layer and apply a black to white gradient in linear mode.
Change the layer mode to color dodge.
Reapply the same technique to give a shiny look to all the buttons.
Type link names over the buttons. Duplicate the button links. Move a few pixels right and reduce opacity.
