Designing a promotional postcard for a music artist

Start by opening the image of music artist. Ideally the artist image should be much bigger than the postcard size.

Create a new file of the post card size. Drag the artist image to this file and scale down to a reasonable size.
Create a cutout of the artist image. Fill rest of the area with a solid color.

Create a rectangular band using rectangular shape tool.
Reduce opacity of this layer to 83%.
Select rectangular marquee tool. From top bar select "Fixed Size" from the style and set fixed width of 100 pixels and height of 60 pixels.
Open the big source image of the artist again. With rectangular marquee tool click on her eyes. Press Ctrl+C to copy the pixels.
In our post card file press Ctrl+V to paste. Place image as shown.

Similarly take two more shots of hand and lips and paste in the postcard file.

Select any of the thumbnail images. Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply settings as shown.
Similarly apply same stroke to rest of the two thumbnails.
Create a white rectangle using rectangular shape tool.

 

Change layer mode to overlay.
Create a big ellipse using elliptical shape tool.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply settings as shown.

Set the fill value in layer palette to zero. This will let only stroke to be visible.

Reduce opacity for this layer to 23%.
Create two horizontal lines using line tool one above the band and one below.
Type the artist name using a nice font and place at bottom right.
Apply a light color stroke layer style.
Type any details on top left.
